I love all the seasons, but Autumn has a special place in my heart. There is nothing like the smell of the dried leaves, cool mornings and evenings, bonfires and wearing my favorite sweater for the first time in months.
One of my favorite things to do in the fall is to go apple
picking; it’s kind of like a kick off to the fall season. I love making anything with apples in it.
Here are some of my favorite apple recipes.
Homemade Applesauce – This is a perfect recipe to make with the kids just after picking apples.
My take of a Waldorf Salad – This is perfect with roasted chicken or on its own for lunch.
Apple Pie – Who doesn’t like apple pie? Served with vanilla ice cream when it’s hot is just so yummy!
Apple Bread – I love to make a big batch and stick it in the freezer. It’s perfect for a lunch “dessert” or afternoon snack.
Apple Squash Cupcakes with Brown Sugar Frosting – The cupcakes are more like a muffin but when kids hear “cupcakes” they automatically think “dessert”. So if I need to say cupcake then cupcake it is! The brown sugar frosting is to DIE FOR – perfect for a fall party.
Apple Crisp –
This is a fantastic dessert that takes no time at all. I like to make this on a
Sunday afternoon as a nice treat after dinner. The recipe I have is actually
Crisp. It’s pretty much the same except the filling is more of an apple pie
Now there are few new recipes I will try this fall…….
Jewish Apple Cake – I’ve had this many times and it’s amazing but never got the recipe. My friend over at Healthful Mama shared with me her family recipe. I also got a history lesson after reading her post - The Jewish Apple Cake is actually Polish roots and this particular preparation of the cake comes from the Philadelphia area which is where we live. Learn something new everyday!
Apple Butter –
This can be made in the crock pot which makes life so much easier - haven't found a recipe yet, do you have one that you would like to share?
Apple Hill Cake - When I saw this recipe over at Ecokaren I knew I wanted to make it. Why? Because it looks so easy. There is nothing better than just mixing all the ingredients together and popping it in the oven.
Do you have one of these recipes or any fun apple recipe that you would like to share? Post your link below within the comments and I will share your recipes with the O’Boy! Organic community throughout the month of September.
